Get ready for the 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Uganda and other 12 primates. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park transports you to one of Africa’s monkey hot spots. Kibale National Park is 795 square kilometers in size and is situated in southern Uganda. Savannah and expansive forests make up the majority of the park’s tropical rainforest.
Though its extent has significantly decreased due to time and human activities, the rain forest is an extension of those found in central Africa. More than 1,500 chimpanzees, 12 other primates, 60 animals, 375 bird species, and 351 trees can be found at Kibale National Park. While some of the forest’s trees are more than 200 years old, others can reach heights of up to 55 meters.
Prior to continuing, it is crucial to note that the Kibale forest is also home to enormous forest pigs, warthogs, hippos, lions (from Queen Elizabeth National Park), leopards, and forest elephants. The world’s best area to track chimpanzees is in Kibale Forest. If Kibale had mountain gorillas, it would likely be one of Africa’s most popular national parks, therefore it’s a shame that it doesn’t.
Chimpanzee habituation
The chimpanzee habituation experience is an option for this excursion. Researchers follow the chimps as they habituate wild chimpanzees as part of the chimp habituation experience. It involves tracking the chimps all day long and is a more thorough experience than typical chimpanzee trekking.
The likelihood of seeing uncommon chimp behaviors, such as hunting other animals for food, is higher. You will spend the entire day participating in the chimps’ habituation if you decide to go for the three-day program in Kibale Forest. To get to the chimps before they begin to leave their nests, one must rise earlier than usual due to chimpanzee habituation. After that, you spend the day following them along with the researchers and rangers. You may observe the chimps as they start their day, eat, socialize, and eventually construct their nighttime nests.

Details of the 3 days chimpanzee trekking safari in Uganda
Day1: Arrival, transfer to Kibale Forest National Park and Nature Walk
On arrival, you will be picked by our experienced driver guide who will be eagerly waiting for you at the airport. Drive to Kibale National Park which will take you about 4hours. Reach the park and check into your lodges. Have lunch break and prepare for the afternoon nature walk.
Take a guided nature walk into Bigodi swamp. You will be able to spot different bird species such as cuckoos, flycatchers, kingfishers, hornbills, great blue turaco among others. Spot animals like the primates, swamp antelopes, mongooses, Bush bucks and otters. Drive back to your lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day2: Chimpanzee trekking/habituation experience
Wake up very early in the morning for the amazing experience. Have your morning break fast. Drive to the park’s head quarter for the morning briefing. Chimpanzee habituation takes more time than chimpanzee trekking and you get more time to interact with the chimpanzee though its more expensive than trekking.
Start the amazing experience by trekking inside the forest to find the chimpanzees. The Rangers will follow their cries and hoots to find the gang. Compared to the chimpanzees in Budongo Forest in Murchison Falls National Park or Nyungwe in Rwanda, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale is more reliable and easier to locate. In Kibale Forest, three sizable chimp colonies have become habituated.
The lead ranger is notified by radio call after an advance squad has been dispatched to find them. Depending on the specific group you are assigned, chimpanzee trekking can take a from two to four hours. After the experience move back to the starting point where you will find your driver guide waiting for you. Drive to the hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day3: Community visit and departure
Wake up at sunrise and enjoy your morning break fast. Enjoy the community visit where you will be able learn more regarding the Toro culture and tradition. Visit the palace of the Toro king or the Karambi tombs and learn more. Drive back to Kampala for departure, the driver will drop you at your point of convenience.
