My Best Ever Destination
My best ever destination came after an amazing encounter in Uganda. Something so interesting worth giving an ear. In the heart of Northwestern Uganda lies a place where nature flexes its raw power and beauty. A place so dramatic that the early explorers called it “The most important object through the entire course of the river.”
Murchison Falls National, the world’s most powerful waterfall, is Uganda’s largest and oldest protected area. Where the mighty Nile River is squeezed through a 7-meter-wide gorge and plunges 43 meters down a cliff, creating the most powerful waterfall on earth.
Beyond the thunderous falls, this park is a magical place for the big five, different plant species and bird species.
Location
Murchison Falls National Park is located in the Northwestern part of Uganda stretching from the shoes of Lake Albert and following the mighty Victoria Nile up to Karuma falls. It is the largest park in Uganda covering about 3,898km2 and it is renowned for its dramatic waterfall, rich biodiversity and sweeping savanna landscapes.
The park covers districts of Nyowa, Masindi, Kiryandongo, Buliisa making it a central hub for wildlife viewing and eco-tourism.
The park is approximately 305km North of Kampala and is accessible by road. About 5 hours drive and you can as well use air via pakuba airfield.
History behind my best ever destination
Long ago, before the British declared the area a national park in 1952, the land around Murchison Falls Was part of the Bunyoro Kingdom. Its ruler, Omukama kabalenga, fiercely resisted colonial rule until he was captured and exiled to the Seychelles.
Locals say his spirit still roams the savannah, watching over the land he once defended. In the 1970s, during Idi Amin’s regime, the park suffered brutal poaching. Elephant populations did reduce from 16,000 to less than 1,000. Rangers feared that the giants would vanish forever however something miraculous happened.
In the early 2000s, the conservation efforts intensified. Anti-poaching patrols, community engagement and international support helped the park recover. Today the elephants roam freely again, their number steadily rising a living testament to resilience and protection.
My best ever destination is a breathtaking place with many wonders. Seeing water gash into the gorge and experience the amazing rainbow colors form is a very interesting thing to view. My best ever destination is more of a dream land that everyone should visit.
Explorer sir Samuel baker named the falls in 1864, in honor of geologist Roderick Murchison. The park is a home to the big four out of the big 5.
