3 Days Murchison Falls Experience

Come and explore the big five and other numerous bird species during the 3 days Murchison Falls experience in Uganda. Murchison Falls National Park (MFNP) is a national park in Uganda managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The park spreads inland from the shores of Lake Albert around the Victoria Nile up to the Karuma Falls.

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest national park with approximately 3,893 km² (1,503 sq mi). The park is bisected by the Victoria Nile from east to west for a distance of about 115 km (71 mi). The park straddles the Ugandan districts of Buliisa, Nwoya, Kiryandongo, and Masindi.

The driving distance from Masindi, the nearest large town, to the Kibanda area of the national park is about 72 km (45 mi). This area is about 283 km (176 mi), by road, north-west of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda.

Since 2005, the protected area is considered a Lion Conservation Unit. In 2010, it was estimated that only 250 giraffes were in the park. A population of 37 Rothschild’s giraffes was transferred from the north side of the Nile River to the south side. In 2016 and 2017, when population was around 1,500.

Murchison Falls National Park and the adjacent Bugondo Forest Reserve host 76 mammal species. Such as chimpanzees as well as Uganda’s largest Nile crocodile population. There are 450 known bird species including the shoe-billed stork, dwarf kingfisher, Goliath heron, white-thighed hornbill and great blue turaco.

DAY 1: Arrival and transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

On arrival, our experienced driver guide will be waiting for you. Drive to Murchison falls National Park. The highlights of this park include; the roaring rapids of the Murchison. The rolling plains of Uganda’s largest National Park where you will have the chance of viewing lions, giraffes, hartebeest, buffalo, and elephants.

Then surely you will be fascinated by the concentration of hippos and the Nile crocodiles there. For birders, Murchison Falls boasts 450 bird species including the elusive shoebill stork, dwarf kingfisher, the white-thighed hornbill, and the Goliath heron among others. En route, make a stopover at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for your first Big 5 experience where you will have an hour of rhino tracking.

Another stop will be in Masindi in order to enjoy your lunch. Continue to the park and check in to your accommodation to relax for the Evening. Dinner and Overnight at Pakuba Safari Lodge

DAY 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

After an early breakfast, tour the Northern section of Murchison with a high concentration of savannah wildlife. Enjoy game viewing and photography of elephants, buffalos, waterbucks, giraffes, Uganda kobs and lions, the leopards  plus a variety of bird species. Return to your accommodation for lunch then go for the boat trip to the base of the falls.

This trip is said to be the highlight of the safari in Murchison falls since it allows you to get up close to the animal species within the water. Cruise past huge hippo pods, crocodiles, bathing buffalo, and numerous aquatic birds adorning the north bank on the way to the mighty waterfalls.

DAY 3: Hike to the top of the fall and departure

Have breakfast then drive to the top of the falls. Enjoy the spectacular view of the falls and thereafter depart for Kampala and connect to Entebbe Airport. Enjoy the enroute lunch. Reaching in the late afternoon for your flight. We hope to see you again and thanks for choosing us.
