Nyenge nyenge Festival in Uganda is an a popular music and arts festival that attracts people from all over the World into Uganda. It’s a festival that calls for more relaxing and enjoying moments.
The name “Nyege Nyege” is derived from the Luganda word “ekinyegenyege”, which means an uncontrollable urge to dance. It’s all about having fun, dancing, and enjoying every moment with the cool music.
How Nyenge nyenge festival in Uganda started?
Nyenge nyenge festival in Uganda was founded in 2013 by Derek Debru and Arlen Dilsizian. It then started official operation in Jinja city in 2015. The idea came due to their passion for African Music that were not getting much attention in East Africa like Kuduro and Afro-house.
They started by throwing parties in Kampala,Uganda. The response was very positive which made them to decide to create a festival in order to showcase these unique sounds.

The festival in Uganda took place at the Nile recovery resort in Njeru Buikwe District. Though they had some challenges like low turnout and bad weather. However, it grew up in popularity and today its one of the biggest electronic music festival in East Africa attracting thousand of music lovers from all over the World.
Where Nyenge nyenge festival in Uganda is performed?
Nyenge Nyenge festival is always performed in Jinja city. A town located near the source of the Nile in the month of November between 17th-21st November. The festival usually take 3-4 days filled with music, dance and cultural performances.
